Epic the first surski you are likely to look at when beginning your surfski journey. Epic are the main stay in the market. We have all heard of Epic the V6 tourer, the V10, they are the more common ski’s you will see on the water. Reliable, surfable and well established in the market. But what are they like to paddle?

The dimensions of the Epic V7 give the boat its stable nature measuring at 5.20m x 54cm. The bucket is designed to give an all round feel and fit. The epic is a rotomould design perfect for beginners, but in this design it adds to the weight, making it a little on the heavy side. But this is standard for rotomould designs.  Making a beginner carbon surfski would be unnecessary and difficult for beginners. The bailer system is something that should be considered when looking at surfski. The epic bailer is easy to open with the heel, leaving you time to enjoy the downwind

The 5 Positive Points

  1. . Excellent Stability. At 54cm this stability allow the paddler to concentration on technique
  2.  Excellent Bailer system. Easy to open and shut
  3.  Rotomould construction. Unbreakable, perfect for beginners
  4. Hatch system. Turning the surfski into a cross over tourer
  5.  Handles. Located at both ends of the surfski, vital for transportation.

The 5 Negative Points

  1.  Hull Shape induces pearling of the ski when catching waves
  2. Hatch system not easy to put on and off
  3. Heavy to handle solo
  4. More of a tourer than a race boat
  5. Only available in white

The EPIC V7 has some good and bad points. In looking for your first surfski you need to establish what you want to achieve in your first steps of surfski, or how you want you to identify yourself as a paddler.
